As I reflect on personal experience and scripture in attempts to answer this question.. I have no clue where to begin….
For me, the very existence of God has always been evident. I’ve always been conscious of God, so I believe it’s necessary to address this question from the perspective of someone who has not – been always conscious.
Since there’s so many different avenues and ways that I could begin to address this question, let’s begin here….
1. God is a spirit.
John 4:24 states, “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.“
Lets define spirit:
- An immaterial intelligent being.
- the invisible part of man
- Breath, air, wind..
So first we must know the the spirit of God is something that we can not necessarily see itself. However, just because we can not see Him doesn’t mean that He does not exist. How can I say that? Easily. Let me ask you this… Do you believe in wind? How can you believe it something that you can not see?!
If I’m correct you will probably say… because I can feel the wind as it blows. Same with God!
2. How can we see Him, if He is indeed a spirit?
How else do you know that the wind is blowing – if in fact we can not see wind itself? Because of the interaction it has with other other objects right? For example, we can tell that the wind is blowing because we might see leaves moving up down the street or sidewalk. We are able to judge how fast or hard the wind is blowing by looking the trees. We are also able to determine the direction in which the wind is blowing. All pointing to wind, even though we are not able to see it.
Well, we can apply the same with God – we may not be able to see his spirit, but we can prove his existence by the very things that he has created.
- Colossians 1:16 “ For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
We can easily take a look at the sky, stars, moon, rainbows, rain, snow, lightening and thunder..etc… that is all the work done by God’s “hand”. So when we see things, we SEE HIM!
- Psalms 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
3. He is omnipresent.
Omni = All present. Go is everywhere at all times without exceptions.
psalm 139:7-10 “Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me”
Hebrews 4:13 “13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”
Acts 17:27 “That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us:”
God is a spirit, and he is everywhere at the same time.
4. God manifested in the flesh
The spirit of God was manifested in flesh and dwelt among us! The scripture tells us this! Let’s take a look at 1 Timothy 3:16 and John 1:1,3,10,14.
- 1 Timothy 3:16 ” And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.“
- John 1:1,3,10,14 “1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
(I encourage you to read John 1)
And Jesus Christ was God manifested in the flesh!
(I will go into another deeper study of how the word shows us this!)
5. It’s IN YOU to desire God!!
Ecclesiastes 3:11 “ He has made everything beautiful and appropriate in its time. He has also planted eternity [a sense of divine purpose] in the human heart [a mysterious longing which nothing under the sun can satisfy, except God]—yet man cannot find out (comprehend, grasp) what God has done (His overall plan) from the beginning to the end.“
Don’t feel bad about your questions. It’s in you to desire God. This is why so many people have searched, thinking that they found the Lord in other religions and other things that people worship. However, they were mistaken – and still empty…
You were created by God, this is why you long for God. Just like a puppy that is lost or has gone astray – they long for their parent. You feel incomplete or as if something is missing when you are without God.
An although you search high an low to find that “thing” that will fill the void. Only God can fulfill what’s empty and/or missing! I know – I am a living testimony.
6. The search is over…..
It’s not a coincidence, if you found yourself reading this blog, and have also been searching for God – but an answer.
John 14:6 “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
***If you continue to diligently seek God, he will show himself to you. God is not a liar, and he will do everything that He says. If you seek – you shall find, if you knock the door shall be opened.. if you hunger and thirst.. you shall be filled!!
Romans 10:13 “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.”
7. What must I do?
Acts 2:38 “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
If you are reading this it is never to late to accept Jesus as your Lord an Savior. Repent. Be baptized and seek the infilling of the Holyghost (as the spirit of God gives utterance).
You are not too dirty, or unworthy of forgiveness. Jesus died for you! Come to Him, He is calling….
