Remember for Psalms & Proverbs I will not be doing a summary or particular questions for each chapter. However, I will be posting favorite scriptures that those that spoke to my heart.

This weeks Psalms is 13

Proverbs 13:3 He that keepeth his mouth keepeth his life: but he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

*Like…. Sometimes it’s best to just keep silent! Why always feel the need to respond?? ZIP THY LIPS CHILD! LOL

Proverbs 13:4  The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

***If we are lazy and refuse to work for the things that we want, we will ALWAYS be in the state of want. In contrast, if we are diligent and hard working – consistent we will have what we work for. This example can be made for natural and spiritual desires as well.

Proverbs 13:10 Only by pride cometh contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

***Contention: A struggling together in opposition; debate; dispute; controversy. A self reflection moment…. When we find ourselves always defensive, constantly arguing or in dispute with someone similarly – IF we are more often than not having something to say about EVERYTHING in a negative manner….. if this is us — then we need to lay down pride! It is the root! Ask God to pluck it from the core

Proverbs 13:13 Whoso despiseth the word shall be destroyed: but he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

***Self explanatory

Proverbs 13:18 Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuseth instruction: but he that regardeth reproof shall be honoured.

****We as humans can do NOTHING on our own and by ourself! You every heard people say, “I did this on my own!”? Or a statement similar? Well, as prideful and vain as the statement is – it’s untrue! Everyone has had the help of somebody to get where ever there are! It takes wisdom, it takes reaching out to someone and saying what can I do better – how can I learn this – what do I need to do to achieve this and/or that? How do I save money- how do I earn interest etc..

If you refuse instruction, correction or provision how will you ever grow? You wont!

Proverbs 18:20 He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed.

***Self explanatory – You become what you hang with it! Stop telling yourself lies like, “I don’t think like her/him we just cool! Eventually either they will start thinking; acting; responding;  and conducting themselves like you, or vice versa!

Proverbs 13:22 A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

***What are we doing to prepare for the future of our children and there children? Are we saving? Investing? Creating business that we can hand down to our children so that as a result they are financial secure? Or have we not even thought about that yet?

Proverbs 13:24 He that spareth his rod hateth his son: but he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

**Uh-oh – I know this one is a little touchy for some… But here the bible says it… If you love your children you WILL DISCIPLINE them! If you HATE them, you will not hence, allowing them to do as they please as if they know what’s best for them… This is why it is important that we train them in the way they should go- so that they will not depart from instruction, morals, commandments etc.
